Traditionele Chinese geneeskunde wordt meestal aangeduid als Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). TCM gaat uit van de balans tussen Yin en Yang. Er zijn vier verschillende componenten binnen TCM. Het eerste punt is. Correlatieve logica; het een gaat het ander stimuleren of onderdrukken, deze logica is de basis van yin en yang en de vijf elementen. Het tweede punt is het systeem van correspondentie; ‘zo binnen zo buiten’, micro en macro, via uiterlijke kenmerken als de huid kan de TCM therapeut veel ontdekken. Het derde punt is qi. Qi is materieel en niet-materieel tegelijk. Qi is een allesdoordringende energie. Het vierde punt is de correlatie tussen qi-functies en de context.

TCM is de verzamelnaam voor diverse genees- en behandelwijzen uit Azië, met name China. Het medisch systeem in China is gebaseerd op inzichten die soms meer dan 2000 jaar teruggaan.
